Books & Breakfast
Freedom Inc. is excited to announce that our Books & Breakfast program will be returning for the summer of 2018! Books & Breakfast will happen every Saturday starting on the weekend of June 23rd to Saturday August 11th from 9AM to 12PM! The space is open to Black, Khmer, and Hmong elementary aged youth.
Register online here if you are interested in enrolling your child.
What is Books & Breakfast? An 8-week Saturday program for Black and Southeast Asian youth. Participants share a hot meal, and then spend the morning reading, doing educational activities, and benefiting from one-on-one mentorship.
How is the program growing? Our goal is to have 25 youth participants for the summer, and for each of them to read 25 books! We also want each student to be able to take home a tshirt and collection of books once the program is completed.
Why is this program important? We know time spent reading helps to increase literacy and a love of learning, but our program also teaches students about important issues like safety, gender identity, standing up for yourself, and the meaning of freedom.
